The Credit Union of Vermont, Founded and Guided by Seven Cooperative Principles
These seven principles are founded in the philosophy of cooperation and its central values of equality, equity and mutual self-help. They express, around the world, the principles of human development and the brotherhood of man through people working together to achieve a better life for themselves and their community.
Voluntary & Open Membership:
Open for membership to all who qualify under our charter No. 63896
Democratic Member Control:
Members participate in the democratic election of a Board of Directors whose function is to create policies and make decisions for the good of the entire membership.
Member Economic Participation:
We encourage our members to make us their primary financial institution. When members participate in the cooperative financial model, the entire credit union membership individually and collectively benefits through competitive loan and share rates and lower fees for services.
Autonomy & Independence:
We operate for the benefit of the members, not for outside shareholders.
Education, Training & Information:
We provide financial literacy and money management education for our members. We educate and train our elected representatives, management and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of our cooperative.
Cooperation Among Cooperatives:
We serve our members most effectively by working together.
Concern for Community:
While focusing on member needs, the Credit Union of Vermont works for the sustainable development of our community, including people of modest means, through policies developed and accepted by the members.
Our Mission
As a member owned, not-for-profit financial institution, our mission is to serve our members by providing a wide range of financial services on advantageous terms, in a professional and friendly atmosphere, while ensuring the credit union’s financial stability.
